Choosing a Double Pushchair Twin

Side-by-Side

These are the most common type of double pushchair, and usually can accommodate two children in a row. They tend to be wider than single pushchairs, which means they're less agile on footpaths and can be a little tricky to navigate between kerbs when a car seat is attached. However, the extra width means that they're generally easier to navigate through doorways and are more evenly distributed making them more comfortable to carry around on your back.

They can be used as a twin pram sets from the beginning and a lot of models will take both a carrycot or 2 car seats. Some can even convert into a single mode with a basket alongside (like the Cybex Venus).

One of the most excellent examples of this is the Bugaboo Donkey 5 which, in Twin Mode, allows you to place the rear seat and carrycot side-by-side. This lets you create an enclosed twin room and is ideal for infants. The pram comes with very cool accessories, including the newborn cocoons that can be positioned either facing toward the forward direction or in any direction (for twin-parent facing pram prams). It is not as lightweight as some other options but it's incredibly well created.

Lightweight

Cybex is known for its innovative pushchairs, and the single-to-double isn't an exception. Its innovative frame expands widthways to take a second seat, and you can use it as a twin right from birth with the addition of two infant cocoons (PS59 each) that create enclosed lie-flat spaces for infants. The large basket of shopping behind the seat can be used in mono mode for one child. It has both front and rear suspension, so it can handle bumps and uneven surfaces with ease. Tandem

If you're planning to have twins, you'll need a tandem pushchair. This will allow the children to sit together and look at each one another. These are great for things like going to the zoo since the children will be able to look at all the animals together. These are also great for parents who need to watch both their toddler and their baby simultaneously.

Some tandem pushchairs provide ultra flexibility as they can convert back to single mode. This is particularly beneficial if you plan to have more children than two (or in the event that your child who is the oldest does not require the buggy anymore). This will prevent you from having to store a buggy that's empty which can be costly.

For example, the Cybex Venus can be used in mono or double mode and has a smart frame that opens wide to allow for an additional seat. It's not the lightest of pushchairs, however it comes with an enormous shopping basket which is located behind the front seat when in double mode (and at the back of the seat when it's mono mode). The seats can either be set up so that they face one the other or higher to see what each is doing.

Other double tandem pushchairs such as the Joolz Geo 3 can seat one on top of the other or side-by-side. They feature a sleek, compact frame that makes them easy to maneuver through doors and supermarket aisles, and some models can even be used as a jogging cheap stroller on rough terrain, thanks to a four-wheel suspension as well as wide rear wheels.

Another benefit of a tandem pushchair is that it can take two carrycots, or a car seat, and a buggy seat. You can save money by creating a travel system at the beginning and avoiding separate purchases. It's worth remembering that tandems can be heavier and longer than single pushchairs and can feel less stable as you go over uneven surfaces. They also need dismantling in order to fit into cars.
